However, preventive maintenance is one factor where the opinion is divided. Every car owner has a different characterization of a preventive maintenance routine. In order to clear up any confusion, we are going to discuss a checklist in this blog that covers the whole preventive maintenance regimen.

But before delving into them, it is important to understand the significance of preventive maintenance of your vehicle. Not only does it protect you from sudden inconveniences, but it also saves you thousands of dollars on extensive future repair works.

#1 Oil Change

This is the most basic preventive measure. Lubricant oil ensures that engine keeps on working without fault. Timely oil change actually results in extending the operating life of the engine. So, this must be on top of your preventive maintenance checklist. Like gas mileage, oil mileage also depends on the vehicle make. So, refer to the owner’s manual to find yours.

#2 Fluid Change and Refill

Checking the levels of different vehicle fluids is another major part of the preventive maintenance routine. Check and refill these fluid levels of your vehicle.

  • – Coolant in the radiator
  • – Power steering fluid
  • – Wiper fluid
  • – Transmission fluid

#3 Belt Inspection

Car engines are usually fixed with two belts commonly known as serpentine belt and timing (engine) belt. As per auto experts, the majority of vehicles need the replacement of these belts after 40,000 and 60,000 miles respectively.  For all drivers using secondhand vehicles, this inspection is a must. If you don’t trust the car’s odometer, then have a professional inspection of these belts.

#4 Check Tires

In order to prevent any mishaps on the road, this preventive maintenance measure is the most important. Check the tread on your tires. If they are wearing unevenly or have worn out too much, then it’s time to replace them. In addition, your car will need realignment if treads have worn unevenly.

#5 Change Air Filter

Air filters protect the engine from coarse material and oil contaminants. In other words, a good air filtration mechanism extends the engine’s life. Air filter replacement also depends on the car mileage. You can find out when to replace the air filter from the owner’s manual.
