4 Spring Time Auto Repair Tips

4 Spring Time Auto Repair TipsFor many Americans, this means family holidays, camping excursions and weekend road trips. But are you confident that your car is in the condition to safely run such long miles, especially after the cold winter it has been through?

The cold temperatures of the winter season usually affects the condition of your car and it starts to show some visible signs of wear and tear. Spring happens to be the best time when you can get your car inspected and tuned up before you hit the road again.

Here in this article we’ll discuss four spring auto repair tips that will get your car back into tip-top condition, and will keep it running without giving you any troubles throughout the spring season.

1- Change Oil and Oil Filter

One of the most important things to keep your car engine in perfect condition is to get its oil and oil filter changed after the intervals that are specified in its manual. But after a long winter, changing the oil and oil filter of your car is a highly recommended tip for spring car maintenance. Neglecting to do so will result in higher fuel consumption, poor engine performance and maybe severe engine damage.

2- Check All the Fluids

When you’re getting the oil changed, you must also consider checking all the necessary car fluids. This would include your power steering, transmission and brake fluids, your windshield washer fluid and most importantly the coolant.

If the levels of any one of these essential fluids are low then you must top them up. Considering that the power steering coolant and brake fluids are closed, the low levels of these fluids would mean a possible leakage that needs to be checked and repaired.

3- Check the Charging System

The most important tip of all is to check the charging system of the battery. Cold winters can weaken your battery, and spring is the best time to check it if you want the coming seasons to be free of any battery related troubles.

Part of the spring auto repair is also to check all the connections of the battery, and make sure they’re tight, clean and corrosion free. Moreover, if your battery is more than five years old then you should probably get it replaced during the spring car maintenance.

4- Lubrication of Chassis

Many new models of cars are lubed for life, but still some of the cars are running on regular chassis that needs to be lubricated after regular intervals. Aside from the chassis, the lubrication of the suspension components must also be made a part of spring auto repair.

The cold temperatures your car has recently been through could have an impact on its rubber parts. That’s why the spring maintenance of your car must involve a thorough inspection of all the rubber belts and hoses for any possible damages, frays or glazing. If there’s a need to replace the belts then you might as well change the pulleys as well to keep the new belt from slipping.
